I think we can all agree that color photography is amazing. It was revolutionary. We were no longer limited to just black and white photos. We could see the exact colors of people’s clothes, of that sunset, of the lighting. And we absolutely love shooting in full color because it captures exactly how our eyes see it. We got to go backwards though and experience pre-color recently when we were asked to do a little kids’ session and deliver black and white photos only!
There is a certain amount of beauty and romance in black and white photographs. Some of the most moving and striking pictures I’ve seen have been black and white. The stark contrast. The soft grays. It’s all amazing! Usually when we deliver a client gallery, we like to include a couple black and white copies of some favorite images just for fun. But this was the first time a client asked us for the full gallery in just black and white.
Part of it was hard because we saw the color images straight out of camera with all their dreamy lighting but then had to convert them to black and white. And we loved both copies! But color wasn’t on the table this time, so we focused our efforts on creating beautiful back and white images for our special client. And lucky for us, we had the most adorable subjects to work with – a 7-month old brother and a 6 year old sister!
I can imagine how beautiful these pictures will look on the walls in their home. With a black frame. Thick white matting. And then their precious little one’s face peeking out! Definitely keeping it classic and bringing us back to the beauty of what we had before color photography. This session was so fun and the little ones did fantastic! There were lots of giggles – for us and them! Looking at these images now, it makes me think I may want some black and white images of my own little ones some day.
