Vzzzzzt. It was mid-morning. A regular weekday and I was distracted with work. I glanced down at my phone and saw the iMessage on my lock screen. I looked back up at whatever I was doing, and then it hit me! Oh my gosh! I looked at the text again and the picture that was with it – the picture that showed two bright pink lines.
Sarah and I had been talking about babies and families just a week prior when we were taking photos at her house on a Saturday. What would it be like? Would you find out the gender or wait to be surprised? Would shifting from a family of 2 to 3 be hard? What would their dog Lenny do? What would decorating a nursery be like?
And then her text came on a bright weekday morning and it was all I could do not to run over to my friend’s house and squeeze her so tight because she was PREGNANT! It was early though and it would be several weeks before they announced it to the rest of the world and even longer before they would know whether they were having a girl or boy.
Sarah and Cole planned their gender reveal party for a weekend in April, but because of COVID-19 and the home quarantine that ensued, the celebration they had planned with all of their friends and family had to be cancelled. While this could have been a big disappointment that could taint memories of their first pregnancy, they both were able to step past the sadness and come up with a fun way to celebrate finding out the gender of their baby (Cole was sure they would have a daddy’s girl and Sarah was positive that it was a boy).
With only their moms and a photographer present, Sarah and Cole arranged for close friends and family members to FaceTime on their phones so they could still be a part of the special reveal moment. And after a countdown, they popped their confetti canons and this is what happened!!
