Feeling like you just don’t have enough time to be a grown-up and do the things you like? We have found the magic answer to getting more hours in your day! And it is Laura Vanderkam.
We are busy. Just like everyone else! We have things we want to do and just never get around to them. When it’s been a long day, sometimes we just crave our sweats and a TV show that makes us laugh easily. We would love to read more, to cook more healthy meals at home, to exercise more, to take a bath, to pursue a hobby. But we just don’t have the time. Sound familiar?
What if we told you that you could get more hours in your day? To do all of the things you’ve been wanting to do but just haven’t had the time? Sounds like wishful thinking right? Wrong!
Because we found that we were able to add more hours to our day and we are able to do more of the things we want to be doing! And it’s been so awesome! How? It all started when we read one of the best books of all time – 168 Hours: You Have More Time Than You Think by Laura Vanderkam.
This book changed our life! While it’s probably seen as pretty boring to recommend a time management book, we just can’t resist this one. It’s that good. Laura walks you through how to record your hours during the day and then how you can get those hours back. To do all the things you HAVE to do (like laundry, cooking, kids, work, bills, etc.) and the things you WANT to do (reading, hiking, volunteering, taking a nap, getting a massage, etc.) With her inspiring stories and witty humor, this book is anything but dry and by the end you’ll have found more hours in your day.
While we aren’t parents yet, we still find ourselves so busy! We are young and still want to do so many things in life, but we kept saying, “We just don’t have time for _____” (fill in the blank with anything fun and life-giving). After reading Laura’s book, we realized we could change our language to “That’s not a priority for us.” If it was a priority, we could make time for it! And we did!
So now, after reading 168 Hours, we are happy to say that we are loving our new lives with seemingly more hours available! I made a schedule for my week and in between being a full-time grad student, working a part-time internship, promoting and working our photography business, and spending quality time with Kam, I still had blocks of hours FREE. To do whatever I wanted. What a glorious feeling!
If we haven’t convinced you to go buy this book on Amazon already, head to her website and read more about why it will change your life forever. Or go to Amazon right now and get it – last I checked you could get a new, hardcover copy for $8.06. Eight bucks for a changed, relaxing, more meaningful life. We think that’s totally worth it!
