We all love a good love story! It’s just part of who we are as humans. Whether you’ve just started dating or are celebrating your 30th wedding anniversary, every single couple has a story. Being a photographer, I get to hear all of these stories on a regular basis! And it never gets old. Every single one makes me smile and relish in the fact that other people also experience the amazing joys of marriage. When Kameron and I meet new people, usually somewhere in the conversation the question is asked – “So how did you two meet?” And so we decided to reminisce and share our story with all of you! From the first conversation to “I Do” to our first year of marriage, here’s our story!
Our Story Pt. I – High School Days
Our Story Pt. II – She Said Yes!
Our Story Pt. III – Our Wedding Day
Our Story Pt. IV – College Days
The Meeting
Kameron was watching her face get more and more frustrated. She was gripping her phone tightly. Finally, she hung up the phone and flopped back out on her beach towel. Clearly the conversation had not gone well. Kameron had watched the encounter and wondered if it was weird to ask a stranger if they were doing okay. Big breathe.
“How are you doing?”
Willow looked up and saw Kameron’s concerned look. Hmmm. Maybe not the person she wanted to talk to, but at least he asked. She thought that was nice.
That conversation by the pool was the first of many in the following two weeks. Kameron and Willow were doing a college class in psychology the summer before their senior year of high school. They sat next to each other in class for eight hours every day, did homework with everyone else in the evening, and kept talking to each other.
At the end of those two weeks, Willow was sure he was going to make a move. They were obviously interested in each other and conversation flowed so easily for them. It was the last night, and she kept waiting for him to say something. The hours ticked on, but the late night was not bringing any confessions of love, so Willow gave in to exhaustion and went to bed. Nothing was going to come of it.
Two days later, Kameron and Willow were at their respective homes, hours from each other. It was July 7th, a warm summer night. They were up late talking on the phone as they had been since they left Santa Barbara. Kameron pauses for a moment and then spoke the anticipated question -“Will you be my girlfriend?” FINALLY! And it was a 100% yes answer!
High School Sweethearts
A navy blue 1997 Jeep Wrangler TJ made the whole thing possible. Kam would hop in and drive the two hours to Willow’s boarding school. Every. Single. Saturday. Morning. They would drive around the small towns, get windblown by the ocean’s salty air, put off getting food until they were both starving and ended up eating Chipotle in the front seats again, and share their lives with each other.
Willow’s friends would squeeze into that tiny jeep until more than eight people were getting jostled around just to make it to the mall without taking the school shuttle. Kameron and Willow would set up DVD’s on a laptop and watch them with the seats reclined just to save money by not going to the movie theatre. Long hugs were exchanged on the bumper when Saturday night would come and they knew they wouldn’t get to do it all again for another week.
Senior prom marked the beginning of the final stretch. Graduation was coming and they knew they would both be going to Westmont College in the fall, where they would finally be in the same spot for more than 24 hours. They dressed up and enjoyed the night with friends, knowing that more time together was soooo close. Maybe even the rest of their lives.
