We all love a good love story! It’s just part of who we are as humans. Whether you’ve just started dating or are celebrating your 30th wedding anniversary, every single couple has a story. Being a photographer, I get to hear all of these stories on a regular basis! And it never gets old. Every single one makes me smile and relish in the fact that other people also experience the amazing joys of marriage. When Kameron and I meet new people, usually somewhere in the conversation the question is asked – “So how did you two meet?” And so we decided to reminisce and share our story with all of you! From the first conversation to “I Do” to our first year of marriage, here’s our story!
Our Story Pt. I – High School Days
Our Story Pt. II – She Said Yes!
Our Story Pt. III – Our Wedding Day
Our Story Pt. IV – College Days
He walked ten steps away from the door. Turned back around and stood there. From that angle, he could see the whole thing without moving. All 300 square feet of it. The hardwood floors, the white walls, the cute garden in the back. Then he saw Willow standing by the front door, a giddy smile on her face. He could hear her internal thoughts – Yup, this is the one!
Willow filled out a check for first month’s rent and scribbled her signature on the bottom. Kameron shook Todd’s hand and handed it over. It was a done deal. This would be their very first home together. This is where they would come back after their honeymoon. Where they would finish their last year of college. Where they would celebrate birthdays together and host dinners. This was their tiny, but perfect home.
Wait a minute….
You’re married and you’re in college?! How old are you??
Going to a college in Santa Barbara with only 1200 students made this question impossible to escape. But Kameron and Willow were used to it. They were even ahead all of the typical “ring by spring” senior couples – a phenomena that is inevitable at small Christian colleges – they were married for their senior year of school! And for them, it was the best year of college by far!
Their final year of college was full of classes and part-time jobs like every other student. But they believed they had the best version of it! Every night, they got to come home to each other and cuddle up in their tiny abode. They spent nights doing homework together on their bed, making peanut butter sandwiches for next day lunches, and sharing highlighters. They would sleep in, go on hikes, and having friends over for dinner in the garden on weekends. Time was filled with sharing their favorite pizza on Butterfly Beach and trying to focus in the library, but ending up laughing until they were shushed.
And then….nine months later there were 300 black gowns and caps sitting on the baseball field in the warm May sun. Two graduates with the same last name walked across the stage, one in Social Science and one in Communications. And just like that, they had made it to the end of their college days together and their first year of marriage.
Willow cried as they packed up boxes in their first home. It was full of so many “firsts” memories. Kameron wrapped his arms around her and held her. He shared her bittersweet emotions, but he also reminded her that this was just the start. They had so many dreams to pursue together. So many goals and ideas to try out together. And if the first chapter together was this good, then they could only get excited for what was next!
